Example of savings: profitability of the 100m3 wood drying kiln


Electric power consumption

Standard installed general power of fan motors for traditional European 100m³ drying kilns (means volume according standard load, not the total volume of chamber) makes 32kW.
Annual work with loading factor as 0.85, electric power consumption can be counted:
32kW * 24hours * 365days * 0.85 = 238 272 kWh
Monetary equivalent (calculating in UAH) : 1 191 360 (rate is 1kWh = 5₴)
Standard installed general power of fan motors for GEFEST DKA-100 drying kilns make 12kW.
Annual work with loading factor as 0.85, electric power consumption can be counted:
12kW * 24hours * 365days * 0.85 = 89 352 kWh
Monetary equivalent: 446 760

That is, electric power consumption – the first saving we’re talking about – is 744 600₴ (annually) less when using GEFEST DKA-100 drying kiln.


Heat energy consumption

The situation about heat energy consumption is similar
Standard installed heat power of boiler which is necessary for every 1m³ of load (for lumber) makes 6 kW for traditional European drying kilns.
Due to thorough study of thermodynamic processes, standard installed heat power of boiler needed for GEFEST DKA-100 drying kiln for every 1m³ of load (for lumber) makes 1-2 kW.

Already at the stage of purchasing and installing boiler equipment necessary for servicing GEFEST drying kilns, a twofold cost saving is achieved.


For traditional drying kilns with working volume of 100m³ the heat power of boiler reaches 600 kW.
For GEFEST DKA-100 drying kilns with the same working volume – sufficient total heat power is 100-200 kW.

Average annual dry firewood consumption for the boiler with power 600 kW makes 9m³/day.
Average annual dry firewood consumption for the boiler with power 200 kW makes 3m³/day.

Dry fuel consumption for traditional 100m³ drying kilns can be calculated:
9m³ * 365days * 0.85 = 2 792 m³
Monetary equivalent: $55 840 (with average price $20/m³)

Dry fuel consumption for GEFEST DKA-100 drying kilns can also be calculated:
3m³ * 365days * 0.85 = 930 m³
Monetary equivalent: $18 600 (with average price $20/m³).

The difference (i.e. YOU SAVE) between dry fuel consumptions (firewood, chips) reaches $37 240 annually (1 009 204₴ NBU exchange rates, Dec 2021)


Summary:

The sum of savings only on direct costs of energy resource when using GEFEST DKA-100 drying kiln (comparatively to traditional European drying kilns) makes 1 753 804 annually and allows to pay off the whole cost of drying kiln during first 1,5 years of maintenance.

Only on the difference in energy consumption!

Some companies in eager to minimize the price are using awful quality materials and equipment. But you can either decrease the quality of equipment, or make the perfect product. It is impossible to get both – no matter what do the sales managers say.
